In order to obtain all available options in favour of Nestlé`s shareholders, the Board of Directors has decided not to renew this agreement. We do not intend to increase our stake in L`Oréal and are committed to maintaining our constructive relationship with the Bettencourt family. As part of a shareholders` agreement with the Bettencourt family, Nestlé has been free to sell its shares in L`Oréal since April 2014. In February 2018, Nestlé announced that its board of directors had decided not to renew its shareholders` agreement. On Tuesday, Bettencourt`s family said it had agreed to pay the Swiss agribusiness giant some $US 8.2 billion in shares and cash for part of its stake in Nestlé. The deal appears, at least for now, to consolidate the family`s control over L`Oréal and end the potential for Nestlé to attempt an acquisition. Nestlé will not renew an expiring shareholders` agreement with the Bettencourt family, which also holds a stake in L`Oréal, the Nespresso owner said in a statement thursday. . . .
